As a collective of cross-party youth political representatives, we believe that there should be a peaceful transition of power in Parliament and that an all-party interim government should be established with the support of all political parties represented to find solutions to the current crisis.
The responsibility of the President, the Prime Minister, the Speaker, and everyone else is to take all necessary steps for this as soon as possible. Greed for excessive political power, petty internal power struggles, and blatant will only lead to further political unrest and more chaos.
We strongly emphasize that this crisis should be resolved in such a way that constitutionality and the rule of law are secured. Any solution that goes beyond the constitutional framework will fuel anarchy and destruction.
We call upon all citizens of Sri Lanka to rally for political transformation through peaceful means and non-violence. No person or group that destroys public property, and promotes violence, will be part of such a transformation. We also appeal to the entire public not to lend your support to any group that incites violence.
We also request the President, the Prime Minister and all political parties to respect the decisions taken at the party leaders’ meeting held on July 13. At this moment, we strongly believe that it is the national responsibility of every political party to dedicate themselves to the common good and to ensure the political stability of the state.
